The Creative Digital Media degree programme provides you with the design, technical and programming skills to create interactive digital media products. You will produce projects that can communicate across a variety of platforms and in some cases perform interactive experiences.
Please note that the CIT Crawford College of Art & Design (CCAD) Department of Media Communication manages the BA (Honours) in Creative Digital Media and is located at the CIT Bishopstown Campus.
Creative Digital Media combines the creativity of art and design with the skills and knowledge of computer technologies and programming to create interactive digital media products. Creative Digital Media comes in many different formats. It can be almost anything you can hear or see like text, image, music, sound, video, film, animation, and more. By combining media, content and interactivity, those interested in creative digital media can take on and work with a variety of media forms to get their content to communicate across a variety of platforms and in some cases perform interactive experiences.
The Creative Digital Media course provides you with the design, technical and programing skills to create interactive digital media products. You will produce projects that can communicate across a variety of platforms and in some cases perform interactive experiences. You partake in a work placement and you can travel on a student exchange.
You will be introduced to the most up-to-date design and media industry software and hardware. The course will also support the development of contemporary critical awareness to assist you in your academic studies. You will be given the opportunity to develop your presentation skills and learn to create innovative creative digital media projects. You will produce projects in digital media design, video production, music technology, computer programming, digital marketing, media business, animation, virtual reality, user experience (UX), user interface design (UI), digital culture and much more!
The work placement will run for a period of no less than 13 weeks, ideally commencing at the start of the 2nd Semester of Year 3. The placement programme will familiarise the student with work practices and procedures in a professional multimedia and/or design environment. It will provide the student with the opportunity to observe the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained on his/her programme. The placement is supported by a member of academic staff in CIT together with a workplace mentor. The aim of the work placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in a relevant work sector and to develop an understanding of the organisation, its procedures and technology. Students may also choose to go on Erasmus abroad.
The BA (Honours) in Creative Digital Media students can choose to do an Erasmus exchange with the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany. Graduates of the BA (Honours) in Creative Digital Media can also choose to continue their studies in Germany at Master’s Level 9 by taking the MA in Leadership in the Creative Industries which is a Joint Award. The Award is internationally recognised and accredited by CIT and the University of Applied Science in Media Faculty, Darmstadt, Germany.

What is the difference between Visual Communications and Creative Digital Media?
Visual Communications is a graphic design course that focuses on creative design for the printed and electronic media.
Creative Digital Media investigates a broader spectrum and focuses on areas such as computer programming, e-learning, animation and video production.
Is the Creative Digital Media course diverse?
Yes, it is a diverse course. The BA (Honours) in Creative Digital Media allows you to study in the CIT Cork School of Music in areas such as music technology. You also learn about virtual reality and augmented reality and and there are also work placement and the opportunity to go on an Erasmus exchange.

Alder’s role involves front-end development on the company website, as well as any other development needs for the marketing team.
